Research Experience:

  • Got sanctioned an independent project under young scientists scheme of department of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, with a total funding of 10.55 Lack Rupees. The title of the Project is " Assessment of the temporal variability of paleo-hypoxia in the west coast of India based on benthic foraminiferal indices
  • Completed one and a half years of postdoctoral research on climatically important gas, Dimethyl sulfide (DMS), its distribution and influence of physical forcing on the production and distribution of it.
  • Completed three and half years of research work focusing mainly on Neogene paleoclimatic and paleoceanographic evolution of northeastern Indian Ocean, using benthic faunal and isotopic data from ODP Site 758A. The main phases of the work can be summarized as follows.
    • Identification of over 200 benthic foraminiferal species and important planktic foraminifers and pteropods.
    • Scanning Electron Micrography (SEM) of over 150 microfossil specimens.
    • Stable Oxygen & Carbon isotopic analysis of over 80 Miocene samples (Got it done in Yale university, USA)
    • Multivariate statistical (Factor and Cluster analysis) and interpretation of the statistical data.
  • Completed the project entitled " Geochemistry & Petrogenesis of St. Mary Island volcanic rocks, south Canara district Karnataka" as apart of M.Sc. program. Analyzed elements and oxides using standard geochemical procedures. Experience in analysis of elements using Inductively Coupled Plasma Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-AES)

Cruise Experience:

  • Participated in 148th 149th and 158th Cruises of ORV Sagar Kanya in the Arabian Sea and in the Bay of Bengal and in several field trips in coastal waters. Trained in the following off shore techniques.
    • Operation and collection of Seawater sampled using CTD sampler.
    • Analysis of seawater samples for nutrients (Nitrate, Phosphate, Silicate), using Auto-Analyzer.
    • Analysis of dissolved oxygen using Winkler's method and using spectrophotometer
    • Processing and analysis of sediment samples obtained using corers and grabs for paleoceanographic and paleoclimatic studies.
